“Obviously, I’ll ring him” – Pundit shares what Lampard’s said on transfers at Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard has regular phone calls to his uncle Harry Redknapp who has admitted the Toffees boss is fighting to bring in one or two new faces this month.

What’s the latest?

The Toffees face a huge clash on the weekend against one of their relegation rivals when they make the trip to the capital to face West Ham United.

Three points against the Hammers could take Everton out of the relegation zone depending on results elsewhere, but Lampard will be battling for the points having not seen any new additions signed so far this month.

With just a matter of days now remaining in the January market, the only arrivals through the doors at Finch Farm have been players returning fro their loan spells away.

However, speaking to TalkSport on Friday morning, Redknapp has admitted Lampard is fighting for his life in trying to bring at least one or two through the door:

(5:00) “Yeah, no, I speak to him. Obviously, I’ll ring him see how he is and he’s trying for his life to get one or two in, you know, he knows they’re short in certain areas.”

Fighting for their lives

It does appear the Toffees are going to endure another second half of the season dogfight to maintain their Premier League status.

Having now played 19 games in the league, Lampard’s men have only been able to clinch three victories and boast one of the worst attacking records in the league.

So it is no surprise to hear Lampard is fighting the board the get some new faces through the door as it is apparent, with this current crop of players, they have a real battle on their hands.

But the issues do lie in Everton’s FFP concerns which will hamper their ability to spend this month and could potentially make them focus heavily on finding loan deals.

It was reported that the Toffees were interested in possibly bringing Danny Ings to Goodison Park, however, they have seemingly missed out on him with the Hammers agreeing on a deal for the striker.

Defeat on the weekend against the Irons would be damning for Lampard and his side with the manager said to be under pressure despite the recent comments from Farhad Moshiri.

Perhaps fortunately for Lampard, the bottom end of the table is incredibly tight so a few wins strung together could drag them out of the danger.

However, anything less than a win against West Ham and they could end the weekend sitting rock bottom depending on Southampton’s game against Aston Villa.

And with just a handful of days remaining in the January window, it will be interesting to see who – if anyone – the Toffees manage to bring in through the doors with Lampard evidently pushing to add some quality to his squad.
