When will the next Kabaddi World Cup be held?

Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei have already qualified for the tournament.

Men’s Kabaddi World Cup is set to return after a gap of eight years and it has been confirmed that the mega event will be held in 2024. The competition has been previously contested in 2004, 2007, and 2016 and India emerged victorious in all the editions. In 2016, the first Kabaddi World Cup for women was held in India.

It has been reported that Wolverhampton is making a bid to host the Kabaddi World Cup in 2024. If it wins the bid, the World Cup will be held for the first time outside India. 

Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei became the first set of teams to qualify for the World Cup after qualifying for the final of the Bangabandhu Cup (Asian qualifiers spot). Bangladesh hosted the third edition of the Bangabandhu Cup and won the title for the third consecutive time defeating Chinese Taipei (42-28). A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament.

India’s performance at the Kabaddi World Cup

Reigning champion India defeated Iran 38-29 to lift the World Cup title for the third successive time. The inaugural edition of the World Cup was held in 2004 in Mumbai with the second edition held in Pavel in 2007, India. In all three editions, India defeated Iran in the final and has been a dominant force in the International circuit. 

Ahmedabad hosted the third edition in 2016 and India started the tournament on a poor note losing to South Korea in the group stage. The host then made a good comeback going on to win the title. 

Senior National Kabaddi Championships is set to begin in a few weeks’ time and all the players will look to stamp their mark in the tournament ahead of the Asian Games.
